The Domestic Diva.....please read

Blockhead Radio.....What's Going On

Most of you may know this already, but I produce shows on BlogTalkRadio. I started back in September with 'The Blockhead Rod Show'. Since the the show evolved into a 2 hour prime time show on Monday nights. It is no longer The Blockhead Rod Show, but Artisan for Artisan on Blockhead Radio.

On the show we discuss ways to promote, what the market is doing, guests, shameless plugs, blogging, music, general nonsense, and so much more for the artist and crafter. The show is hosted by Blockhead Rod, A Good Witch Too, Huckleberry Arts in the chat room, and Sew Happy Designs is our roving reporter. We have way too much fun in the show and chat room. If you have never experience our show live, check it out sometime. Artisan for Artisan is on Monday nights at 9 p.m. eastern time.

We have been growing with a great following. The reviews we have received from the listeners on their blogs just overwhelms me with emotion. These listeners make the show what it is.

Blockhead Radio is expanding. We have added a new show to the lineup already, Indie Music Artist Spotlight. We aired out first show just this past Wednesday. We have always played music from indie artist Sean Gill on our Monday show and we were lucky enough to have him join us live. It was a great show and Sean even shared some music from the upcoming Strange Land Cd. We were the first to hear it besides the band and a few other people. I look forward to working with more Indie Artist in the future. We will be sharing all genres of music, so we'll have something for everybody. The show is on Wednesday at 9 p.m. eastern time and is hosted by Blockhead Rod.

So what is in the cards for Blockhead Radio?

Starting December 4th we will be airing a new show called 'Thursday Spotlight On'. The show will be on Thursdays at Noon and will feature a new artisan every week. I am going to produce the show and am in talks with somebody to host the show. If you are interested in being a featured artisan email us at blockheadradio@gmail.com

We are working on another prime time show right now. We are going to be joining forces with another great site out on the Internet that helps promote artisans. More on this when we get the details worked out.

Do you have an idea for a show? Want to co host it with me? Etsy teams would you like to have a monthly show for your team? Just send me an email at blockheadradio@gmail.com

The great thing about BlogTalkRadio is that you never miss a show. Even if you can't join us live, you can always listen to our shows just by going here. They are archived on BTR and make a great listen while working on your next project.

Be sure to join the crew and follow our blog where we post links from the show, guest information, and articles are posted.

Recap of Sean Gill Interview

If you missed our interview with Indie Music Artist Sean Gill, you missed a lot. Sean was one of the best guest I have had on Blockhead Radio. We kicked back and talked like old friends and listened to his music. Sean is a member of the band Strange Land and actually gave us a preview of some of the song from their upcoming CD. We were the first people that the band shared their new music with. How great is that. You can listen to the entire show here.

You can find Sean on the Internet at the following locations:

www.myspace.com/juliebsolo
http://www.freewebs.com/guitarsean
http://progrockin.blogspot.com
http://www.myspace.com/seangill
http://music.podshow.com search Sean Gill

You can find out more about Strange Land here:

Sean's CD "This Is What It Sounds Like Inside My Head" is available as a free download here along with his and Strange Lands other Cd's available for purchase. Do not miss out on the opportunity to pick up these Cd's. The price is as almost as awesome as the music. I know we are going to be picking up a couple for Cheyenne for Christmas. She loves the music by Sean and Strange Land.

We look forward to the new CD from Strange Land and a new solo one from Sean Gill. Once they are out, we will be sharing them with you on Blockhead Radio.

I want to thank Sean for coming on with us last night. It was a treat for me.

Check out the entire show here.

Sean Gill LIVE On Blockhead Radio

Sean Gill, solo artist and member of the group Strange Land, will be joining us live on the air Wednesday 11/19 at 9pm eastern time. We are going to be learning more about this great rock artist and listening to some of his music.

Mark your calender and make sure you join us for this show.

If you have not setup a user name on BlogTalkRadio, just go here and get one set up. We will be taking callers and questions from the chat room.

Recap Monday 11/17 Artisan for Artisan Show

What a surprise it was. We had too much fun and scared off Debra Linker with the chipmunks song :) A good group of listeners out there in the Internet world and a lively chat room. A Good Witch Too and I talked about.........I'm not sure what we covered. Witch was having a sneak attack, her awesome contest (hey, do I get another entry for this), many references to butt bubbles (check out the new government warning here), and so much more. Huckleberry Arts did an awesome write up on last nights show. Go check it out.

Don't forget to check in on Lampwork etc, Etsy Street Team and the Beads for Food drive their team is doing this month. What a great group and I'm sure you will be hearing more about them on Blockhead Radio.

Couple announcements about how we plan to grow Blockhead Radio. Stay tuned for more on that.

Thanks to everybody out there that are writing such great posts about Blockhead Radio and putting our player on their sites. If it was not for all of you it would just be a couple fools talking on the phone. Thanks from all the crew.

Blockheaders pay if forward. We found out one of our fellow artisans' husbands will be getting laid off from work. We jumped on the band wagon and went to her shop. We offered some great incentives and to find out what they are, just give Mondays show a listen. For those that have bought something, please let us know.

Code to Know.......Sidebar Sales

Ready for another way to sell you items from your blog. What about those wonderful sidebars that you have all those widgets on? Below is the instructions and code to do it.

First thing is to know the width in pixels that your sidebars are. If you do not know, here is an easy way to find out. Go to your layout page and click on "add a gadget". Scroll down to the Picture and click on it. At the bottom you will see a check box "shrink to fit". Under that it will tell you the width. Click on cancel and close that out.

Now go to your photo hosting service. i.e. flicker, photobucket, picasa, etc. You need to select the image you are going to use and re size the width to match the width of you sidebar. Save the new image. Leave this browser open, we will need information from it.

To make things easy open up Notepad. Notepad is the best html editor out there. Copy and paste the code below.

All the wording in between the <> are tags. Do not change or delete any of the <>'s.

1. Title of Item.....delete and put in your title.

2. img src. This is your photo. Remember when you re sized it. Now go back to that tab and right click on the photo. It brings up another window. Click on properties. This brings up a smaller window. The third line down is the url address. Copy from the http:// to the end of the line. Now highlight this is the http address from photo hosting service and delete. Now it is important that you do not delete the " ". Paste in the url address you had copied from your photo service. I showed this for the hardest way to get the url. Many photo hosting services have the url address right with the photo. That is the same url I had you retrieve from properties.

3. Type your description in here...highlight and delete. This is the easy part. Just type in your info here.

4. Price...highlight and delete. I like to include shipping with the price and state that

5. Paypal button code here.....highlight and delete. Insert the code from Paypal here. You can make a Paypal button by logging into Paypal and clicking on the merchant services tab.

There ya go. Now go back to your blog layout. Click on 'add a gadget'. Scroll down to the 'html/java' and click on that. Now copy and paste the code from your notepad into the box. Click on save and place where you would like on your sidebar.

When done it should look like this:

IZ

What is IZ? A combination of nightmares. The topknot from the samurai. Being stranded on Easter Island. The Cyclops from the Odyssey. So here’s my nightmare to you. 6 3/4" Tall. All hand formed, no molds used. Signed, Dated, and Numbered 1/1. Shipped U.S.P.S. Priority Mail. Price Includes Shipping to address' in the U.S.
$48.00

p.s. IZ is for sale :)

Song Stuck In My Head

I've had this song stuck in my head all week. If I am anything I am a beach bum. I grew up on the shores of Lake Michigan and was in the water from the time the ice went out till it was to thick for the boards. Probably the reason I migrated to Florida. I always joke on the show that Weird Al is my favorite musician, but in truth I am a huge Parrothead. I grew up with Jimmy and have all his Cd's. Use to have the tapes but they wore out. I've had one of his songs going in my head all week. It is my 2nd favorite by him right behind 'A Pirate Looks at 40'. That song had real meaning when I reached that age this year. This song is uplifting and makes me smile every time I sing it in my head. Here's to you Jimmy, the real Jolly Mon, and all the other Parrotheads out there.

Find out more about Jimmy and Parrotheads by visiting www.margaritaville.com

Recap on 11/10 Show with Links

Last night we shared with you another great Etsy team. On this show we introduced you to LEST. LEST stands for the Lampwork, etc Etsy Street Team.
LEST was created by Melissa Vess and Cindy Haberman. Currently LEST is made up of 120 talented lampwork artists and the group is growing everyday.

Each Month LEST has a Team Challenge, or a Special Promotion. Nicole Valentine Rimmer is our Promotions and Challenges committee leader and has put together some really great promotions!

Throughout the Month of November participating LEST members will be donating canned food items, or dollar amounts for each bead/bead set sold in their Etsy shops to Food Banks or Shelters in their communities.

Learn more about this great team and how you can help them raise canned goods by visiting their blog.

Blogging for Doughnuts
Yep, I went all Ben Stein on you last night. Blogging should be an important part of your guerrilla marketing campaign. It's free and easy to do. I just hit a few of the high points of starting a blog last night. I am in the process of writing a little guide on making your blog work for you. I'm a great writer, but when it comes to trying to explain over the air I am a bit lacking. We won't put you through that again. Here are some of the points I hit last night:

Make a Plan
Sit down and write up a brief plan on how you are going to use your blog for promotions and sales. How do you want it to look. How to promote.

Feedburner
Make sure you submit your blog/feed to feedburner. It is part of google and almost a requirement to make a blog successful. They have great tutorials on how to use all of their services. Take the time to do this step.
http://feedburner.com

Site Meter
Site Meter is a great way to track your out click traffic. It is free and easy to sign up for.
http://sitemeter.com

Project Wonderful
Project Wonderful is a great way to market and make a little money. It is an Infinite Auction system. It is something worth signing up for for two reasons. Inexpensive advertising and another way to make money from your blog. Once you have 30 post you can apply to put advertising space on your blog for sale. I use the money I make on Project Wonderful and turn it back into advertising.
https://www.projectwonderful.com

Google Analytics
This is something that I did not mention on the show last night. Google Analytics is the best site traffic system out there. It is easy to include on your blog and is a must.
https://www.google.com/analytics

Posting
A minimum of 5 posts a week. You might be concerned about what to post. Here are the 5:

1. Post about somebody else. Share with the readers another artisan who you know or enjoy their work. Include links and let the person being featured know. Tell them to share the feature with their groups, forums, threads, etc. This work in favor to both of you. You will recieve traffic to your site and they gain exposure.

2. What are you working on. Show it off with photos

3. A personal post. If you are uncomfortable doing this, there are other options. Do a Wordless Wednesday where you just post a photo. Share a recipe. There are many options here.

4. Money Post. This is where you are going to offer something for sale. Think of it as a listing. Include a title, photo, description, and "policies". Include a paypal button for the quick sales.

5. What are you working on Part 2

All your posts should be a minimum of 150 words, include images, and links. Keep 5 post viewable on your front page.

Widgets
There are 3 widgets that you must have on your blog. Followers, feedburner subscribe, and your blog archive. These are very important and should be above the fold if possible. Don't overload your sidebars with widgets.

Making Bucks from your Blog
I know this is the hot topic and what a lot of folks wanted to hear.

I only use one affiliate site. I have been burned on click through by the big one and have always been gun shy of using them. I always searched out individual site that had their own. I have found one that impresses me to no end and I use them. Pepperjam Network offers a wide selection of advertisers to pick from and the click capture rate is outstanding. They show more clicks than I have tracked.
Affiliates

Pay Per Post
Pay Per Post is a site that has advertisers that will pay you to post about them. Huckleberry Arts does this and is making some extra money every month doing so. Your blog must be 90 days old and not a strictly commercial site.

Text Link Ads
This is another advertisers site. You can make money on the side by putting text links on your blog. It's well worth looking into.
$100 In Free Links From Text Link Ads!

These are just a few of the ones that I know and trust. I am researching others right now and will share my findings once I have all the information.

Another Sneak Attack

Here's another great sneak attack going on.
Help support it any way you can.

Every few days a new or relatively undiscovered Etsy shop is chosen as a "victim,” and at a given time multiple buyers all visit the site and buy one or more items each, resulting in a whole slew of surprise business in a very short time. It’s a great way to give a big boost to a new Etsy shop!

Today's sneak attack will be at 3:00pm EDT. We can all meet here and chat a bit until it's time. Bring a friend or 2. Today's shop has items from 2.00- 10.00 !Get your Christmas list out and get a few presents taken care of today! Wouldn’t it be great if we could buy out the entire shop?

How to participate: Go to this site- http://www.handmademovement.com/ at or soon after the time of today's attack and you'll see the chosen shop name. Then go to that shop and purchase an item, making sure to include the words "Sneak Attack" in the "message to seller". The shop owner will also be informed of what is happening so they know just what is going on. Don't worry about being too late for the attack. If the shop name is still up there, you can still go and make a purchase!

Here is the link to the Etsy thread.
Stop by and say hi so we can keep it going

If you know me than you know I like to plug artisans. So here's the deal. If you follow Blockhead Rod on Twitter the first ten to leave a comment on this post will get plugged on the Monday 11/10 show. It can be your shop, blog, site as long as it is kid friendly. Join us Monday night at 9 p.m. est on Blockhead Radio.

Guerrilla Marketing

What is Guerrilla Marketing?

The term guerrilla marketing was coined by Jay Conrad Levinson in his 1984 book Guerrilla Marketing as an unconventional system of promotions on a very low budget, by relying on time, energy and imagination instead of big marketing budgets. The term has since entered the popular vocabulary to also describe aggressive, unconventional marketing methods generically.

As self representing Artisans this probably describes our marketing program. I am a big supporter of Guerrilla Marketing and always promote the use of it.

A blog should be your #1 tool for your Guerrilla Marketing Campaign. Over the next few weeks I am going to be talking about setting up a blog that promotes and sells for you. I will do it live on the show and I am in the process of writing an e-book on it.

Recap of Monday 11/3 Show

If you missed the show last night, you missed out on a lot of fun. A Good Witch Too and I were in complete control till the end of the show when the sound effects took over. I do believe it was the ghost of the chipmunks. Here's what we covered:

The Artisans Challenge
Last week ended in a tie between LDphotography and jennigerladd.
This weeks looks to be a runaway for Debra Linker.....get your vote in.

The Artisans Shoppe
This is the sister site to The Artisans Challenge. It launched last Saturday 11/1. We let our listeners know how it is setup and what we are planning in the future for it.

The Handmade Movement
What is The Handmade Movement?
This is the embryonic version of a site whose purpose is to help creators, sellers and buyers of handmade items with fun and useful promotions, tips, giveaways, links and more. Although unaffiliated with Etsy, we focus in particular on shops of handmade items from Etsy.com
A Good Witch Too is sponsoring a sneak attack herself. You can find out more about it here.

Etsy Angels Team
Our very own roving reporter Sew Happy Designs joined us with an Angels update. Etsy Angels is a wonderful team on Etsy. Go check them out.

A Great Giveaway
Debra Linker sponsored out giveaway on last nights show. Congratulations to Deer Mountain Creations for being the winner. From all the crew "Thanks Debra". Go visit Debra's shop for some great items.

Not sure what a SNEAK ATTACK is all about??? You can read all about it at The Handmade Movement!

Tonight's Sneak Attack starts at 7pm EST and the shop that is going to get sneak attacked is....

HA! I'm not telling! Guess you'll just have to head over to the thread and/or show up around 7 pm to find out.

Then listen in on the radio show tonight to find out how my first sponsorship of a Sneak Attack went... I'll share the trials, the triumphs, successes, failures, tears and smiles of my first attempt!
