In case you haven't heard, BHR is going on the road. You can find out all about it here. Starting November 28, 2009 we will be doing a show 'Prospecting for America' at noon ET every Saturday. We will be broadcasting live from around the U.S. We hope to meet the musicians, listeners, and artisans from Blockhead Radio.

Till next time..........later taters

and in 5, 4, 3, 2, 1

Oh Crap We're Live.......................

As you know, we had to cut the live shows out not to long ago. Huck and I had to seek work outside the house. Well it all seems to be settling down into a schedule again. Whew. Now that we have a schedule worked out, I can go back to do what I love doing.

Starting Monday October 5, 2009 we will be back live on the air and in chat with the following shows.

Monday through Friday 9 am to 11 am ET the Morning BrewHaHa. Yep, all the all odd news, music, live guests, and antics you can handle.

Monday through Friday 11 am to 1 pm ET the Mid Day Madness. This is your chance to request your favorite songs on BHR. You can join us in chat or send them to request@blockheadradio.com. We will be keeping track and every Monday posting the top 10 requested songs for the previous week.

From 1 pm to 1:30 pm ET. We will have to see what develops.

On Friday nights at 8 pm ET, join Huck in chat for her weekly scavenger hunt. The winner will be promoted on the front page of the website the following week.

As always, the music is going 24/7. We have been adding a lot on new musicians and have over 500 submissions that we are going through now.

We upgraded the server today back to 128k. I just love how it sounds. It was done on the back end so you will not see any changes........only hear them.

Have you checked out the Blockhead Radio toolbar yet? It has a quick launch button for the player and links to popular social media sites like Twitter, Plurk, Facebook, and MySpace. We left room on the toolbar so you can customize it with the toys you would like. It works on IE and Firefox. Download our free toolbar

It looks like the second channel will be easy/world/jazz. Once we have all the music in we will be launching that channel. It looks to happen toward the end of this month.

Huck and I are brain storming ideas on some contests. Chances to win CD's, T-shirts, and more.

We want to thank all of you for your continued support of Blockhead Radio and want to welcome the new listeners from Evony. Yep, thanks ClosetCreature.

So Last Night at the SKAT Show...

The wonderful redneck Canadian, Lillet (pronounced LIL-AY) called in and gave us a hard time and we loved every minute of it. We did learn a little something amidst the chatter and laughter though: there are swamps in Canada. Eh?

Of course we touched on quite a few scholarly topics as well in between all the brain farts and um... bomb dropping. Which I'm sad to report will be remembered far more than our genius plan to balance the national deficit.

Honestly it doesn't even matter right now what it is that happened last night. What matters right now is that we all focus our attention on a very important event starting this Friday.

The 48 for Larry Radiothon kicks off at 6pm. If you've managed to miss all the hoopla leading up to and surrounding this special event we urge you to read more about it HERE.

So spread the word, pop those players, and gear up for 48 for Larry!

Monday Nite SKAT Show... What did those gals talk about?

No, seriously y'all... what was it that Huck, Rocker and myself talked about last night?

I was there and honestly I couldn't even sum it up for ya in a nice coherent manner. But that is the sheer fun of the S.K.A.T. Show. Its much ado about nothing and made up completely on the fly!

I will try my best to give a recap and if I'm not completely sure then I'm just gonna make it up. Even if you were there chances are you couldn't tell any of us what it was we covered.

So, I think we started the show off in our usual manner. Then we talked about THIS... followed by a little of THAT. Of course talking about THAT led to the topic known as OTHER.

I'm sure there was mention of kittens being dragged...

Rocker's Pa making a homemade diving board that pretty much is the epitome of her country roots...

More talk of Nuts (mostly because we missed "HuffNuts" which means I regretfully missed my Monday night visual). That kind of segwayed into Rocker earning her Nut name of "Butchered Nuts" while I became "Wicked Nuts" and Huck became "Squirt Nuts"...

Then we poked a dog with a dead stick. No, not really. But we did talk about the fact that asking someone to censor art just because it isn't to your own taste is just plain wrong. So for the few haters out there... just know that you are greatly outnumbered by the admirers.

Yeah. You had to be there. And you really should be there every Monday night at 9pm EST. In fact if you don't show up it has been scientifically proven that every S.K.A.T. show you miss takes seven years off your life. (Okay, I made that up.)

Larry and his family need all the help from their family and friends they can get! Jacob and Janet need Larry to hang around here with them as long as he possibly can! All of his friends surely want Larry to stick around too!

Sabrina Shaheen

Sabrina’s CD, Love Is... is a vocally driven pop CD with various musical genres coming together to create one sound that is uniquely hers. With an imaginative contrast of vocal styling and dynamic aarrangement's, Sabrina is destined to shed new light on contemporary music.

For years, Sabrina Shaheen has touched listeners with the sound of her voice and her dedication to uplifting people with her music. Whether singing in the theater, the symphony, in film or in concert, Sabrina is one of those rare performers whose singing conveys both passionate beauty and depth. Her new album, Love Is... is a powerful expression of her musical vision, one that has been a lifetime in the making.

Born and raised in Michigan, Sabrina has been immersed in music and the arts for as long as she can remember. Starting on her family’s piano at the age of four, at seven, she began formal piano lessons. At the same time, she was studying ballet (from the age of three through college) and would eventually become a member of the Tri-City Ballet Company while in high school. (Sabrina has studied a variety of dance, including ballet, tap, flamenco, modern and jazz.)

Throughout the challenges of her life, music has been, in Sabrina’s words, “a true, loyal friend – the thing that’s never let me down.” Loving various genres of music – hard rock, jazz, pop, classical and dance, Sabrina channeled her love into an intensive program of music study, all with the goal of becoming a performer.

A performer is what Sabrina has become, playing in over ten musical, dance and theatrical roles for the University of Michigan and regional theaters with lead roles in Kismet, A Chorus Line and Peter Pan, among others. She has sung at the Detroit Symphony Orchestra Hall in Detroit and has performed live at Detroit’s legendary Cobo Hall. She’s been a mainstay in the Detroit music circuit, keeping up a relentless schedule of performing her originals and standards at various clubs, restaurants and parties. Her versatility has also earned her voice-over work and even won her the lead role in the independent film “Rage Of Justice.” And in perhaps her most unusual gig, she sang at a private party for Arnold Schwarzenegger.

Amidst her dizzying schedule and accomplishments, over the last few years, Sabrina worked on what she calls, “my labor of love,” her new album, Love Is… Produced by Brian Drago and Sabrina herself, the album is a departure from Sabrina’s history of singing jazz. Instead, Love Is… emphasizes Sabrina’s love of dance and ethereal pop, simultaneously recalling Madonna and Enya. Sabrina says, “The more self-confident I’ve become, the more I wanted to get into various pop styles; some with a dance beat, some with a middle eastern sound. To me, it all blends together into my own style.”

Standout tracks include the sultry opening song, “Show Me,” and the album’s title track, “Love Is…” an expression of Sabrina’s vision of what love makes possible for humanity. She expands, “I love the song because it captures what I believe humans can strive for – a kinder level of living for humanity.” “Ecstasy” oozes with sensuality, as Sabrina’s voice weaves a tale of hypnotic seduction that’s utterly irresistible. And the album’s first single, “In My Life,” is the album’s statement of purpose – to follow a dream no matter who or what is in the way.

After years of working to be the best singer, writer and performer she can be, and in a career filled with impacting all whom she encounters, Sabrina Shaheen has reached a peak with Love Is… Her intention to reach people through her music remains as unshakable as ever. She declares, “I want my music to be heard by people all over the world – I’ve been through so much, and I want to share it with everyone.” Given Sabrina’s dedication to her craft and her relentless pursuit of her dream, it seems almost inevitable that her wish will come true.

Going Green with Mom's Cafe..and a giveaway!

Last night Mom's Cafe went green and YES, we stayed on topic! Rocker and I discussed various ways you can go green and be eco-friendly and NOT break the bank! We chatted about what being green means to us, for myself I will be as green as my pocketbook allows and I respect the earth we've been given; for Rocker, she explained she just cannot stand to see things throw away, she sees potential in everything!

We shared some fantastic links, tutorials and shops you can purchase green items from if you are sewing machine phobic.

Here are some to get you started:

Links to repurposing clothing:

Did you know the Average American throws away 68 lbs of clothing each year? That is insane!! Think of all the good that could come from that! Even if you are not a crafty person, think of the other places you can share your unwanted items! Freeuse, Freecycle, Goodwill, Salvation Army, Women's Shelters, Homeless Shelters, Schools, etc. There are places you may never realize would take donations..perhaps your local Head Start, Girl Scouts, Boy Scouts could use some items? Police stations may take clothing and toys to use when dealing with rape or abuse victims. Donate your blankets to homeless shelters or hospitals for babies...who knows if your blanket could help keep one baby warm? Why throw it out?? Do good!

Parenthood also leads one to many Earth Friendly possibilities, reusing toys, sharing toys, handmade toys and clothing, cloth diapering, mama cloth and many reusable items for mom and baby abound!

Here are some awesome shops to find such items:

BlogFire Lights Up BHR

AliciaMae, Guild Master of the BlogFire Guild on ArtFire was our guest co-host at Blockhead Radio Live (BHR) last evening. Her team dominated the chat room, as we discussed the nitty-gritty of this awesome blogging guild.

Bloggers on Artfire - "we blog about crafting, art, and selling online. We're on twitter too" says AliciaMae...admited control freak. However, it is only because if she does it herself, then she has no one to blame for any mistakes. Awwwww!

In addition to her eclectic artistan interests, Alicia works from home as a full-time editor for mostly technical science publications. From the White Mountains of New Hampshire where she finishing her PhD, Alicia enjoys the peace of a lifetime living with and around creative others.

"Woodburning was passed down to me from my Mom and I have always had an affinity for paint. Cross stitching was a hobby when I was a teenager and bracelet weaving was a summer camp hobby that brings back nostalgic memories. I used to play with polymer clay and always enjoyed the miniatures my aunt made for herself. Given that information, I have about 20 years experience in making these items, but am constantly expanding my horizons."

Approximately 60 members and growing, it was a joy to reunite with Alicia after a long time of being teammates on another venue.

Don't Eat the Soap.....

Deli that is....
Oh if only computers were scratch and sniff then we could all truly enjoy this blog post all the more! Rebecca, of Rebecca's Soap Delicatessen, also affectionately known as SoapDeli, sat down with me to talk about her yummy soapiness.

Just how did Rebecca and SoapDeli get started? She explains, "When I first started out in 2001 the idea was to sell soaps that smelled like delicious favorites from the kitchen. I still do sell food scented soaps, but I've also evolved into non-food based scents as well to meet customer demand. All of my soaps are made using the cold process soapmaking method in small batches to ensure quality control. I use shea butter in all of my soaps and only vegetable based oils. Many of my soaps are vegan though I sell goat milk varieties as well for those who choose a different
lifestyle. I scent all of my soaps with the maximum recommended amount of scent to ensure a great smelling bar from start to finish. All of my soaps have a rich lather that makes them great for shaving. They also work well as facial soaps - my unscented goat milk soap is a favorite
for this - and as shampoo bars."

Her current favorite item is the "Lemon Verbena Salt bar. It's not only 100% natural but it smells divine and my skin loves it too." Rebecca says, "It's formulated for those who tend to have dry skin, like myself as I'm prone to eczema - and has a wonderfully rich, lotion like lather."

Sounds great to me!! Rebecca is not only soap extraordinaire, but also admin, marketer, advertiser, interviewer, co-founder of http://www.byhand.me. Which, Blockhead Radio is a huge fan of! If you haven't checked out byhand.me, we highly suggest you do and while you're there...check out the Blockhead Radio Clubhouse created by yours truly :)

Rebecca gets to work closely with her husband, Adam, who co-founded Byhand.me with her and while he works a full time job, as a computer programmer, "by night he programs for the artisan community http://byhand.me that he created. We're together all the time since he telecommutes for his job and we share an office. He also accompanies me on Saturdays to the market as my "helper." He takes his mac book and gets work done and I get a chance to socialize, shop, take those necessary potty breaks, and buy us lunch." Adam also runs his own online business with his beautiful photography, which you can find at http://infivision.artfire.com and http://infivision.etsy.com. Rebecca and Adam have much to be proud of, along with their busy lives, they also have a 12 year old son, who Rebecca smartly puts to work helping around the house! (This mom agrees with that 110%!)

Rebecca's not new at soapmaking! She explains, "I've been making soap since 2001. I have always suffered from sensitive skin. Mom would always wash my brother's and my clothes twice. Once to get them clean and then again without detergent to get the fragrance out. Luckily unscented detergents are now easy to come by. It was just before I started making soap that I started buying handmade soaps. They made a huge difference in my skin and I never turned back. I figured since I was buying handmade soaps all of the time I may as well start making my own. And the rest just progressed from there.

Selling online was more or less just a hobby for me until January 2008 when I decided to take it seriously. I was also entirely too busy with selling on the city market prior to that to make time for selling online. Things changed in January 2008, though, and I got really organized and prioritized things. Local sales were starting to take a slight downturn then and I didn't - as they say - want to have all of my eggs in one basket. So I started promoting online and by the end of the year I was seeing regular online sales. As it lucked out my online business picked up enough the last quarter of 2008 to make up for the sharp downtown the economy took. While my local sales for the last quarter of 2008 were down 50%, my online sales made up that 50% I was down. Online sales are also what pays the bills the first quarter of every year when I'm unable to sell locally due to the cold."

Besides the online community friends she's found, Rebecca is able to connect with other local artisans at the city market. She says, "There are so many wonderful artists and food producers on my local market and we sometimes bounce ideas off one another as far as when to sell, what to sell, how to expand, etc. Mostly we just like to gossip though!" Nothing wrong with that!!

Rebecca knows her limits though, and knows when life gets too stressful it's time to take a break! (That's when the house cleaning son comes in mighty handy!) She also suffers from agoraphobia and seasonal depression, she shared, and says sometimes it's just hard to get to the local seller's market. I think anyone who can recognize her limitations, and STILL create such awesome work and an ENTIRE online community deserves some kudos!!

So where can you find Rebecca? Glad you asked!

the Artisan Beaders Team Does BHR!

Something interesting happened to me Tuedsay evening over at BlockheadRadioLive.com

(click on banner)

Lee of the Artisan Beaders Team joined me as guest co-host on the "Artisan Teams & Groups" show. One of the interesting tidbits about this team is that they do not have a team leader. Instead they have a mission statement, are a juried team, keep their membership to a managable and comforatble level, and use a private board to talk.

Callers to the show included Vicki and Deronda, who added their personalities and helped to promote the team, its beliefs, and members. The chat room was alive and kicking!

Lee can be found at 1000 Markets where she and her partner began going by the name of Five to Nine Designs.

Thank you, to all of you.

~Lily and BHR
